The 5th Japan International Toy Fair brochure (1966)
Brochure for The 5th Japan International Toy Fair held in 1966 from 11th to 14th October at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Hall Ōtemachi-kan and organized by the Japan International Toy Fair Association.
The first edition of the fair was organized in 1962 and years later it was renamed in Tokyo Toy Show. The Tokyo Toy Show was also an important event for the video game industry until the birth of the Tokyo Game Show in 1996.
This brochure folds into 4 parts and measures 18.2×8.5cm when folded and 18.2×34.2cm when unfolded. On one side, it illustrates the plans and the list of exhibitors present at the fair, while on the other side it provides an informative report on the fair.
Nintendo took part in the fair from the early years and in this brochure from 1966 you can see that it was present at booth 403. In 1966, Nintendo had just started expanding its product line by venturing into the toy sector just a year before, so you can imagine how this fair was an important event to open up to a new audience of customers and retailers. Next to Nintendo, was present Tenyo (天洋) at booth 404, a Japanese company that sells magic supplies and boasts a historic collaboration with Nintendo in the use of their playing cards.
Furthermore, again near the Nintendo booth, the Nobuhiro Koide company (小出信宏社) was present at booth 406, which also produced playing cards (see Nobuhiro Koide card catalog of 1964).
Among the other exhibitors we can find on the brochure, there are the Epoch Company (エポック社) at booth 605, a famous competitor of Nintendo in the production of toys, and Bandai (小茂田商店) at booth 513, which has always been a constant presence at the fair.
